PROLOGUE

The glass doors of the café didn’t just open; they seemed to yield to him.

Aviren stepped into the warm, ambient hum of the establishment with a phone pressed to his ear, his mind already three steps ahead in a complex web of board meetings, market acquisitions, and quarterly balance sheets. He moved with the quiet, unquestioned authority of a man accustomed to control. To Aviren, life was a series of predictable equations. People were variables to be managed, relationships were inefficient financial risks, and personal milestones—like birthdays—were useless calendar markers best ignored under a mountain of work.

He was entirely, utterly untouchable.

Until a woman sitting three tables away raised a hand, fixed him with a brilliant, manic smile, and altered the trajectory of his entire existence with two absurd words:

“Hi, baby!”

Inaya didn’t believe in grand romantic destinies either, though for entirely different reasons. Where Aviren built high, impenetrable walls out of icy silence and corporate perfection, Inaya built hers out of sharp wit, endless chatter, and a bright, infectious humor that kept everyone at an arm’s length. She went on blind dates solely to keep her mother from staging a domestic coup, quietly enduring arrogant men who measured their worth in sports cars and silent wives.

She had expected her evening to end in cold coffee and mild irritation. She had not expected to draft a towering, stranger into a performance as her devoted boyfriend.

She had meant it as a temporary escape—a ten-second survival tactic.

He had played along purely for the dark, wicked entertainment of watching her scramble.

Neither of them knew that the universe was playing a far longer game. Neither realized that the sharp-tongued Senior Project Manager and the uncompromising CEO were about to walk into the exact same elevator the very next morning. They didn't know that an icy board room would become their battlefield, that late-night corporate deadlines would bleed into forbidden bargains, or that a strict, "no-feelings" agreement would slowly unravel every defense they had ever built.

They thought they were too smart for love. They believed they were immune to commitment.

They were wrong.

Because sometimes, a forever story doesn't begin with roses, moonlight, or carefully laid plans.

Sometimes, it begins with cold espresso, a terrible date, and a complete stranger who looks at you like you've lost your mind—and decides to say yes anyway.
