EPISODE 04

The heavy master suite door shut with a soft, magnetic click, sealing the cold shadow of the study behind them.

Arjun didn't set her down by the edge of the mattress. He walked deep into the room, holding her flush against his broad chest while Aadhya kept her arms wrapped tightly around his neck, her forehead tucked into the soft dip between his collarbone and throat. Her body was still carrying that faint, imperceptible tremor—the lingering electric shock of seeing Aditya’s crest after four years of silence.

Arjun felt every beat of her racing pulse against his skin.

He slid onto the center of the massive bed, pulling her down with him so that she landed directly on top of his broad torso. The heavy duvet pooled around their legs, draping them in dark warmth.

"Arjun..." she murmured softly, her fingers smoothing down his bare shoulders.

"Shh," he rasped low into her dark hair. He reached up, his large, calloused hand lightly cupping the back of her head, pressing her face down against his warm chest. "I've got you. Stop overthinking for five minutes."

Aadhya let out a long, shaky exhale, the tension in her shoulders slowly dissolving as the heavy, steady thud of his heart echoed against her ear. It was the only sound that could ground her.

She shifted slightly, sliding her knees up on either side of his hips, straddling his waist over the sheets. The silk of her robe fell open, exposing the dark lace of her camisole and her bare thighs resting against his black sweatpants. She looked down at him, her dark hair cascading over her shoulders like a veil, framing their faces in the dim golden glow of the bedside light.

Arjun looked up into her dark eyes. His broad hands slid up from her waist to lightly rest on her bare thighs, his calloused thumbs smoothing lazy, soothing arcs over her skin.

"Better?" he asked softly, his raspy voice thick with quiet affection.

Aadhya gave a tiny, subtle nod. She leaned down, resting her palms flat against his broad chest, her dark eyes softening into something tenderly mischievous.

"You're very bossy at three-thirty in the morning, Mr. Kapoor," she whispered, her voice dropping into a cute, teasing murmur.

Arjun’s lips twitched upward, a lazy, dark glint sparking in his coal-black eyes. "Someone has to be. You were looking at tax documents like they were going to jump off the screen and bite you."

"They were very aggressive tax documents," she countered smoothly, leaning in until her lips grazed the edge of his stubbled jawline. She pressed a small, soft kiss to his skin, then another right beneath his ear, feeling his broad chest expand as his breath hitched.

"Aadhya," Arjun rasped, a low, warning hum vibrating through his throat, though his hands on her thighs tightened their grip slightly. "You're playing with fire."

"I am the Chairman," she murmured against his skin, her lips tracing a slow path down to his collarbone, her small hand sliding under the hem of his dark shirt to feel the hard, defined ridges of his abdomen. "I am permitted to play with whatever I like."

Arjun let out a raspy, deep chuckle—a sound so rich and genuine that it sent a sweet heat straight down to her core. He reached up, his broad hand wrapping around her nape, pulling her face down to his until their lips were a fraction of an inch apart.

"Is that so?" he whispered, his dark eyes locked onto hers with absolute devotion. "Then claim your territory, CEO."

Aadhya didn't hesitate. She closed the tiny gap, pressing her lips to his in a lingering, sweet kiss that held zero corporate defense, zero fear, and total surrender. Arjun accepted her touch with an agonizingly gentle patience, his tongue sliding against hers in a slow, deep rhythm, anchoring her to the present moment, far away from European shadows and encrypted messages.

When she finally pulled back, resting her forehead against his, a soft, comfortable silence returned to the room.

Arjun pulled the heavy duvet over both of them, rolling slightly to keep her tucked flush against his side, his broad arm anchored across her waist like a permanent shield. Aadhya closed her eyes, resting her hand over his, letting the warm safety of his presence carry her off into a heavy, deep sleep.

8:15 AM — The Grand Ballroom, Kapoor-Malhotra Tower, Lower Parel.

The morning sun streamed through the geometric glass dome of the corporate headquarters, reflecting off white marble floors, chrome accents, and dozens of flashing camera lenses.

The atmosphere in the grand atrium was electric. Over fifty major media outlets, financial analysts, and high-stakes investors were packed into the press gallery, murmuring frantically amongst themselves. The ticker screens above displayed the volatile stock prices of Kapoor Global and Malhotra Designs, flickering rapidly as the market reacted to the sudden joint press conference called at dawn.

"Is it true Kapoor signed over fifty-one percent of the voting shares?" a senior Bloomberg journalist whispered to her camera crew.

"No one knows," the cameraman replied, adjusting his focus. "Word is they haven't been seen in the same room since the court judgment ten days ago. Some are saying Arjun Kapoor left the country, others say she purged the entire board."

At 8:28 AM, the heavy mahogany double doors at the side of the stage swung open.

The murmurs in the room died instantly. Every camera shutter began to click in a frantic, deafening chorus. Flashbulbs illuminated the stage like a storm of lightning.

Walking side by side, perfectly in sync, were Arjun Kapoor and Aadhya Malhotra-Kapoor.

Aadhya looked commanding. She wore a tailored, double-breasted suit of deep emerald wool, the sharp lines accentuating her sleek frame. Her dark hair was styled into a flawless, low chignon, exposing the black-and-gold beads of her mangalsutra against her throat. Her lips were painted in her signature matte crimson, her posture radiating absolute, untouchable authority.

Beside her, Arjun was a towering wall of power. He wore a bespoke, dark charcoal three-piece suit without a tie, his unbuttoned collar revealing the sharp angle of his neck. His jaw was cleanly shaved, his dark, coal-black eyes sweeping over the sea of journalists with a cold, unyielding intensity that immediately silenced the room.

They didn't look like two executives engaged in a bitter legal feud. They looked like a joint monarchy.

As they reached the central podium, Arjun didn't step behind his designated microphone immediately. Instead, in full view of fifty international news cameras and live global broadcasts, he reached out his right hand.

His large, leather-gloved fingers wrapped securely around Aadhya’s gloved hand, holding it firmly right above the podium table. The heavy platinum band on his ring finger caught the studio lights, resting right beside the matching gold on hers.

Aadhya turned her head slightly, her dark eyes meeting his for a brief, electric second, a quiet, unshakeable trust passing between them before she faced the press.

She stepped closer to the microphone, her voice dropping into the quiet, crystalline pitch that had commanded boardrooms for half a decade.

"Good morning," Aadhya announced, her tone echoing clearly through the speaker arrays. "Effective 8:00 AM today, the executive boards of Kapoor Global and Malhotra Designs have executed a complete, unified merger. The combined entity—Kapoor-Malhotra Enterprise—will operate under a single joint executive mandate."

She paused, looking out at the sea of stunned journalists.

"Furthermore," Aadhya continued smoothly, "as Joint Chairpersons, Mr. Kapoor and I are announcing an immediate, six-month sabbatical from all public operational duties to oversee our private integration strategy. Executive authority will rest temporarily with our designated proxy board."

The room erupted. Journalists raised their hands frantically, shouting questions over one another.

"Mr. Kapoor! Is this a forced buyout?" "Mrs. Kapoor, what about the Singapore acquisition files?" "Are the rumors of personal reconciliation true?"

Arjun leaned forward slightly, his broad hand still locked tightly with Aadhya’s. He brought his dark, gravelly voice to his microphone, cutting through the chaos like a heavy blade.

"The merger is absolute," Arjun rasped, his voice smooth, dark, and utterly final. "The enterprise is locked. And any attempt by outside parties to destabilize our holdings during this period will be met with immediate, unmitigated corporate litigation. Have a good day."

Without waiting for another question, Arjun turned, his hand guiding Aadhya by the small of her back as they walked off the stage in effortless, unified steps, leaving the global press corps in absolute uproar.

9:10 AM — Private VIP Terminal, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport.

While the financial world was burning with news of the Kapoor-Malhotra merger, a sleek, unmarked Gulfstream G650 heavy jet touched down softly on the private tarmac, its powerful jet engines whining down to a low hum as it taxied toward the isolated VIP hanger.

The stairs unfolded with a quiet hydraulic hiss.

Two broad-shouldered security operatives in dark Italian suits stepped down first, their eyes scanning the tarmac with military precision before signaling upward.

A man stepped out of the cabin into the humid morning air of Mumbai.

Aditya D’Cruz adjusted the cuffs of his bespoke dark grey linen jacket. His icy grey eyes swept over the distant skyline of the city, a thin, ruthless smile touching his sharp lips. He pulled a pair of dark polarized sunglasses from his breast pocket, slipping them on as he descended the stairs with slow, deliberate grace.

A black luxury sedan pulled up to the foot of the stairs, its rear door opened by a waiting local driver.

Aditya paused on the bottom step, looking down at his phone. The live broadcast of the Kapoor-Malhotra press conference was playing on his screen—specifically, the freeze-frame image of Arjun Kapoor holding Aadhya’s hand at the podium, their rings glinting under the lights.

Aditya’s thumb lightly tapped the glass screen right over Arjun’s face.

"Welcome to India, Mr. D'Cruz," his chief operative murmured in Italian, holding the car door open. "The penthouse in Worli has been placed under round-the-clock surveillance as requested."

Aditya turned his phone off, slipping it into his pocket with chilling composure.

"Send the flowers to her private office," Aditya commanded softly, his voice a smooth, deadly purr against the roar of the tarmac. "A dozen black roses. With the card signed from Fiesole. Let us see how long her husband can keep her safe."
