CHAPTER 01 : THE FIFTY-SECOND FLOOR

The air on the fifty-second floor of the Obsidian Tower carried a quiet luxury—one that felt earned, not given. It was a sterile mix: the crisp bite of recirculated air conditioning, the faint effervescence of chilled Dom Pérignon, and the sharp tang of ozone seeping through sealed glass as a monsoon churned over the Arabian Sea. Below, framed through the floor-to-ceiling glass in a wide high-angle vista, Mumbai pulsed in a chaotic, distant smear of red and white taillights beneath a sky bruised purple-black.

Up here, far above the city’s sweat and noise, the elite sipped vintage champagne, mingling effortlessly under soft classical piano music.

"The entire elite crowd of Mumbai seems to be here tonight...(Is party mein toh Mumbai ki saari elite crowd aayi hai...)" a guest whispered near the bar, adjusting his cuffs.

A few paces away, a venture capitalist chimed in smoothly, "The quarterly projections look exceptionally solid.("Quarterly projections kaafi mazboot lag rahe hain.")"

Arjun wasn’t interested in the art, the projections, or the people.

Framed against a dark marble pillar near the edge of the room, he held a tumbler of undiluted single malt solid in his right hand, his jaw set, his dark eyes focused intensely off-screen toward the center of the hall. His charcoal three-piece suit—cut with such precision it seemed forged to his frame—emphasized the coiled strength in his shoulders. But he didn’t carry himself like the old-money heirs filling the room; he moved like something caged, a predator forced into civility.

An equity partner leaned into his space, pitching deals with desperate, calculating eyes. "So Arjun, mid-cap portfolios are yielding twelve percent...(Toh Arjun, mid-cap portfolios lagbhag baarah percent ka return de rahe hain...)"

"Not interested," Arjun cut in coldly, offering nothing more. "I have no interest in the secondary markets.("Mujhe secondary markets mein koi interest nahi hai.")

His gaze never wavered from one point across the marble expanse.

Aadhya.

Surrounded by three senior venture capitalists who leaned in to catch her every word, she looked neither impressed nor engaged—only quietly, lethally unbothered, holding a crystal champagne flute with ultimate poise. Draped in a liquid-red Kanjeevaram silk saree that cascaded over her shoulder like fresh blood, her posture was a silent act of rebellion against the room's muted tones. The antique gold embroidery along the border caught the recessed lighting with every subtle shift of her body. Her expression was flawless control—striking, unreadable, cold enough to chill a glass of champagne just by looking at it.

"Malhotra Designs will dominate the European market by Q3,"("Malhotra Designs Q3 tak European market mein dominate karega.") she said, outlining the global rollout in a voice that was a calm, low current cutting through the ambient murmur."Once they hear our new valuation, all the other brands will be shocked." ("Hamari nayi valuation sunke baaki saare brands shock ho jayenge.")

The men around her leaned in, captivated, their smiles tight with admiration—and something far less professional in their eyes. Across the expanse, Arjun watched through a tightened frame, his pulse hammering beneath his ribs. His knuckles turned white as his hand gripped the crystal tumbler under immense tension; his jaw muscle twitched violently as their gazes lingered too long on the exposed curve of her back, where the blouse dipped dangerously low.

"Look away from her,"("Uski taraf mat dekh.")Arjun muttered under his breath, his jaw clenching so hard it threatened to fracture bone. The crystal groaning under his grip betrayed the internal whisper raging inside him: "If he looks at her for one more second, I'll smash that glass right there..."("Ek second aur dekha toh iska glass wahin tod doonga...")

From Arjun’s perspective across the hall, the scene settled on the lead banker, who chuckled warmly and offered, "Impressive pitch, Aadhya. The board will certainly approve.(Board ise zaroor approve karega.) "The valuations are going to be sky-high..."(Valuations toh bilkul sky-high hone wali hain...")

Aadhya didn’t falter. As she glanced past the banker’s shoulder, her dark, almond-shaped eyes locked directly onto Arjun’s. No flinch. No smile. Just a slow, deliberate lift of her chin—unflinching and challenging. A challenge. An invitation. A vow.

It was an unspoken whisper echoing across the hall: "You started this, Arjun... I'll be the one to finish it."("Shuruat tumne ki thi, Arjun... end main karoongi.")

Arjun didn’t bother excusing himself from the droning equity partner. Setting his drink down on a passing waiter’s tray without a glance, he turned and cut across the carpet. His leather soles made no sound against the hand-knotted Persian runners, yet the crowd parted instinctively. People sensed the shift in energy the moment Arjun Kapoor moved—like a storm front rolling in. "Is that Arjun Kapoor?" a woman whispered behind her glass. A nearby executive nudged his colleague, muttering, ("Dekho use... rasta chhodo, otherwise boss mood kharab kar dega.")

He stopped directly behind Aadhya, so close that the broad width of his chest was inches from her bare back, the heat radiating from him slicing through the cool air brushing her bare skin. Then he caught it—the scent of crushed night-blooming jasmine and warm vanilla rising from her neck. It hit him like a physical force.

"Gentlemen," Arjun cut into the conversation, his voice low, rough, and absolute. "I’m taking the CEO of Malhotra Designs. "I hope your discussion is over."(Aap logon ka discussion yahan khatam hota hai.")

The three executives froze, instantly recognizing the founder of Kapoor Global. "Of course, Mr. Kapoor. Good evening," the lead banker stammered, stepping back nervously while his colleague nodded along,"Of course, sir. We'll continue this conversation later."("Bilkul sir, hum baad mein baat kar lenge.")

They mumbled polite retreats and scattered into the crowd. In their wake, only silence remained—thick, electric, suffocating.

Aadhya didn’t turn. She took a slow, deliberate sip of champagne, letting him burn in his own impatience.

"Your manners are deteriorating, Arjun,"("Tumhare manners din-ba-din kharab hote ja rahe hain, Kapoor.") she said, her voice smooth as silk, meant only for him. "Mr. Singhania was about to commit thirty crore to our new fund."("Mr. Singhania was about to invest thirty crore in our new fund...")

"He stared at your back for six minutes straight,"("Woh lagataar chhe minute tak tumhari peeth ko hi dekhta raha.") Arjun growled, leaning in until the edge of his lapel grazed her gold jhumka. "I don't care how many crores he was bringing."("Mujhe farak nahi padta ki woh kitne crore la raha tha.")

His calloused fingers settled on her hip—deliberate, heavy, claiming over the crimson silk. His thumb pressed firmly into the fold at her waist, pulling her flush against his chest. "He’s lucky I didn’t throw him off the balcony."("Woh khushnaseeb hai ki maine use balcony se neeche nahi phenka..." )

In the dark glass window's reflection, Aadhya’s breath caught—a sharp, subtle rise in her ribs that he felt against his arm—though her expression remained impeccably composed.

"You don’t own this gallery, Kapoor,"("Kapoor, yeh gallery tumhari nahi hai.) she whispered, her manicured fingers tracing the stem of her glass while her core tightened from the heat of his hips against her. "And you certainly don’t own me." (Aur mujhe own karne ka toh sawaal hi paida nahi hota." ) Arjun’s jaw grazed her temple. He shifted his breath down to her ear, sending shivers down her spine. "We’ll settle that the second we leave. Your car or mine?"("Bahar nikalte hi yeh baat settle karenge. Tumhari gaadi ya meri?")

She turned her head slowly, bringing her dark, wine-stained lips within a breath of his jaw. Her eyes sparked with that dangerous, intoxicating fire—the look of a woman who knew exactly how much power she held over a man who ruled everything else.

"Mine," she purred, slipping from his grasp with agonizing slowness. "And if you take more than five minutes, Arjun… I’m locking the penthouse door."("Mine... Aur agar five minutes se zyada liya, Arjun... main penthouse door lock kar doongi.")

“Follow me, Kapoor” ("Peeche aate raho, Kapoor,") her eyes teased as she glided away. The click of her heels on polished marble sounded like a countdown.

He didn’t wait five minutes. Not even thirty seconds.

"I won't need five minutes..."("Five minutes ki zaroorat nahi padegi...") he muttered to himself as he tracked her path across the room.

Aadhya moved with lazy precision, the red silk catching the light as she glided toward the private VIP lobby. She reached the silver elevator doors and pressed the call button, but Arjun closed the distance fast. Just as the brushed-gold doors began to close on her smirk, a hand shot through the gap with violent speed, forcing them open with a sharp electronic chime.

"Desperate, aren't we?" she teased.

"Do you really think you can leave on your own?"("Tumhe lagta hai tum akele ja sakti ho?") Arjun countered rasply.

He stepped in, and the doors sealed shut with an airtight hiss, cutting off the world in an instant and locking them in a dense, charged vacuum. The elevator dropped fast, the digital indicator flashing downward—52... 51... 50...—but the tension inside spiked faster.

"Fifty floors is too long to wait," Arjun said softly.

Aadhya stood at the center, back to him, staring at her reflection in the mirrored wall. Her shoulders were rigid, her breathing controlled—but her reflection betrayed her: dark eyes wide, throat pulsing with a frantic rhythm."The car is waiting downstairs, Arjun..."( "Gadi neeche wait kar rahi hai,) Arjun... Control yourself, Kapoor."This breathlessness of yours is betraying you."( Tumhari ye breathlessness tumhein betray kar rahi hai.")

Arjun said nothing. He stepped up behind her until his broad frame completely blocked her view in the mirror. Without breaking eye contact with her reflection, he reached past her shoulder and slammed his palm onto the Emergency Hold button.

The lift shuddered to a stop between floors. The bright white overhead lights cut out instantly, switching to a low, atmospheric amber and cyan glow from the floor strip lights.

"Not tonight," Arjun rasped. "We're not going anywhere now."("Ab hum kahin nahi ja rahe.")

"Arjun," she breathed, her voice a fragile mix of warning and surrender. "The driver’s waiting downstairs."("Gadi neeche wait kar rahi hai, Arjun...")

"Let him wait," Arjun rasped. "But I can't wait...("Lekin main wait nahi kar sakta.")

He gave her no space, no time. In one fluid motion, he gripped her waist, spun her around, and backed her against the cool glass wall. The shock of the icy surface against her spine and the searing heat of his body against her front made her gasp. "Arjun!"

"Quiet. Not another word."("Chup bilkul,") he growled.

His eyes were black with dilation, stripped of the composed CEO façade. Now, he was just a man starved for her.

"You think you can stand there, bare-backed, in front of half of Mumbai’s boardrooms,"("Tumhe lagta hai tum is tarah khuli peeth ke saath Mumbai ke aadhe boardrooms ke saamne khadi ho sakti ho...") he growled, his voice dropping to a gravelly rasp,"And then you're going to act like nothing happened?"Aur phir aise behave karogi jaise kuch hua hi nahi?" His hand slid up her waist, thumb tracing her collarbone before settling gently at the base of her neck. His skin burned against hers. "You think you can command me like that?"

Aadhya’s chest rose sharply. Her hand flattened against his navy tie, feeling the wild, relentless thud of his heart. She squeezed the silk, rising slightly on her toes, refusing to let him see her break.

"I didn’t do anything, Arjun," ("Maine toh kuch nahi kiya.) she whispered, her lips hovering near the pulse in his neck. A slow, mocking smile curled her mouth. If they were staring, maybe it’s because I looked good. Or maybe… it’s because you’re weak enough to lose control over a woman who doesn’t belong to you. "Your anger tells me just how helpless you really are..."(Tumhara ye ghussa batata hai ki tum kitne helpless ho...")

That snapped the last thread of his restraint.

Arjun exhaled sharply against her temple and slammed his right hand against the glass beside her head with a dull thud, caging her completely. "Don't test me, Aadhya. (Hadd mat paat karo meri patience ki...")

His hand tightened at her nape, yanking her face up as his lips grazed her jaw, trailing down to the sensitive skin beneath her ear. He bit her earlobe gently—just enough to make her knees buckle—then whispered, raw and fierce against her skin, "Not mine? Every inch of you has my name written on it, Aadhya. (Har ek inch par tumhare mera naam likha hai.)And I’m going to remind you of that all night."

His hand shifted to the heavy pleats of her saree at her hip, fingers hooking into the silk, tugging her closer until no air remained between them. The fabric rustled loudly in the confined space, drowned only by their ragged breaths.

Aadhya’s breath hitched. Her fingers dug into his shoulders, composure fracturing into pure, unfiltered need. "Arjun… not here…"

"Say it again,"(Ek baar bolo ) he demanded, his mouth hovering a hair’s breadth from hers, breath hot on her lips. "Tell me to stop. Say it now, and I’ll release the hold.( rukhne ko... aur main elevator chalu kar doonga.")

She stared into his eyes, pupils blown wide, chest heaving against his. Pride urged her to push him away. Every nerve in her body screamed for more. Instead, she released his tie, reached up, and fisted her hands in the short hair at his nape—pulling him down to her.

"Shut up and kiss me,"("Bakwaas band karo, Arjun...") she whispered fiercely.

Their lips crashed together like a collision long overdue.

No softness. No hesitation. Just teeth, tongue, and months of suppressed hunger breaking free. Arjun groaned—a deep, animalistic vibration in his chest—as his mouth claimed hers with brutal possession. He wrapped his arm around her waist, lifting her heels entirely off the floor, devouring her with dark, insistent need as her red lipstick smudged along the edges of their mouths in the dim amber light.

"God, Aadhya..." Arjun rasped, his voice wrecked against her mouth. U will make me mad ("Tum mujhe paagal kar doongi...")

His hand left the mirror, sliding down her back, tracing the bare expanse of skin exposed by her blouse. His fingers burned as they dug into her waist, lifting her so she was fully pressed against him, feeling the hard, unmistakable ridge of his arousal through the thin silk.

A soft, helpless gasp escaped her. Arjun swallowed it whole, silencing her with another punishing kiss before trailing feverish bites down her jawline to her neck. Her head fell back against the glass, throat arched. His thumb hooked under the pleats at her hip, lifting the fabric just enough to slide his palm onto her warm, bare thigh.

"Arjun..." she breathed, hands clutching at his suit jacket. Listen please ("Suno na...) The driver... he’s waiting... he’ll notice... use pata chal jayega..."

"I don’t care," he muttered against her collarbone, teeth grazing the skin above her gold necklace. "Let the whole damn world wait."

His fingers pressed into her soft inner thigh, moving upward with torturous slowness as his thumb circled over the lace of her thigh-highs. Aadhya’s hips jerked forward instinctively, a ragged breath escaping as she clamped her legs around his hand.

"You’ve gone mad," she whispered, her voice trembling with breathless desperation.

"You made me this way,"( "Tumne banaya hai mujhe aisa." ) Arjun growled, eyes snapping up to meet hers in the dim cyan light. His chest heaved, his hand still gripping her thigh, holding her captive. "Now tell me—do we finish this right here on the floor, or do you take me up to your bed?"

Aadhya’s chest rose sharply, her swollen, crimson-stained lips curling into a slow, dangerous smirk. She looked down at him, eyes blazing with dangerous triumph. Then she reached down, covered his hand on her thigh, and tugged—sharp, teasing.

"Press the button, Arjun," ("Button dabao, Arjun... ) she purred, her voice thick with promise as she bit her lower lip. Before I change my mind and make you beg."

His jaw tightened. A dark, wicked smirk curled his mouth. lets go…. Let’s go to penthouse ( Chalophir... penthouse chalo.")

Without breaking eye contact, he reached behind him and hit the release button.

The executive white LED lights flicked back on with a chime as the elevator hummed back to life, resuming its swift descent toward the private garage below. They remained locked in a breathless embrace as the floor numbers ticked down fast.

"Better be worth it, Kapoor," Aadhya whispered, smoothing her thumb over his swollen lip.

Arjun pulled her tighter against his chest."The night's still young, Aadhya..."( "Raat abhi bohot baaki hai, Aadhya...")
